- 1/4 cup khichadi mix
- Handful khichadi rice
- Handful yellow mung daal
- Handful toor daal
- 1 carrot diced
- 1 small potato diced
- 1 small onion chopped
- 1 cup thick curd
- 2 tsp gram flour
- 1 cup water
- For tempering khichadi-
- 1 tbsp oil
- 1/4 tsp mustard seeds
- 1/4 tsp cumin seeds
- Pinch asfoitida
- 1/4-1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- As per taste Salt
- 1 tsp ghee
- 1 tsp OR 10-12 black pepper corns powder
- For tempering kadhi-
- 1 tbsp ghee
- 1 pc cinnamon
- 2 pc cloves
- 4-6 pc curry leaves
- 1/4 tsp methi kuria
- 1 small red chilli whole
- 1/4 tsp asafoeitida
- 1 small green chilli splitted
- as per taste Salt
- 1 wheat flour khichu's papad to serve
Steps to make to make Vegetable khichadi with kadhi
- Mix khichadi mix, both daal and rice. Wash and soak for 15-20 mins. Heat oil in pressure cooker, add mustard seeds, cumin seeds & asafoetida, let it splitter. Then add half of the chopped onion, chopped potato and carrot, add turmeric powder and saute for a while. Remove access water from khichadi and add to cooker. Mix well and saute for a while. Then add water in double quantity of khichadi and let it simmer for 4-5min. Then add remaining chopped onion.



- Cover with lid and do 2 whistles. Let it set and cool down. Open and add ghee, black pepper powder and mix well.



- In curd, add gram flour and whisk it well. Take care no lumps remain. In a pan add ghee and add methi Kuria, cinnamon, clove, curry leaves and saute. Then add green chilli and red chilli, saute for a while and add asafoetida. Then add buttermilk batter, water and salt. Add sugar too. Simmer for 4-5 min(Here I used chhash that made from malai, in Gujarati we call it Malai ki chhas. It really gives nice taste to kadhi. I always make kadhi from it.)



- Take a big bowl, grease it, then add small bowl upside down and fill this with khichadi. Turn it on plate. And remove bowl.



- Add kadhi to small bowl and serve with papad and onions.
